Lenten Studies-Adult Formation

There are two studies being offered this Lenten Season. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the facilitators directly.

The Gospel of Thomas
Join Ellen Kulik on Wednesdays during Lent from 7-8pm as we use a lectio divina practice to discover the wisdom of the Gospel of Thomas. The Gospel of Thomas is an ancient text that contains 114 non-dual, transformation sayings of Jesus. No experience with lectio divina or familiarity with the Gospel of Thomas is necessary. Just come with an open heart and a listening ear.
Meeting Time: Wednesdays, 7-8pm, beginning March 13th

The Social Justice Bible Challenge
This study bridges the gap between knowing the Bible and living it. For those who are invested in the work of social justice, the daily meditations connect their compassion to God’s Word. For those who are deeply engaged in scripture, the readings, questions and prayers command action. Featuring forty days of reflections by spiritual leaders and writers around the world. The Social Justice Bible Challenge is an extension of The Bible Challenge, a global initiative to encourage daily engagement with the scripture and an exploration of the Word of God. Founded by Marek Zabriskie in partnership with Forward Movement, the Bible Challenge has over 250,000 participants in 2,500 churches in 40 countries. The class meetings will also include an experience of lectio divina using the Gospel reading for the coming Sunday.
Materials: The Social Justice Bible Challenge edited by Marek P. Zabriskie-$12.95, available from Forward Movement. Kindle version is available.
Meeting Time: Thursdays, from 4-5:15pm, 6 sessions, beginning March 7th
Facilitator: Becky Coerper (becky@stjamesskan.org)
