Contemporary Worship Band Director Job Posting

Job Summary:

 As St. J’s part-time Contemporary Worship Band Director, you will lead heartfelt worship through an invitational style that draws people in, encourages participation, and ignites passion for Jesus Christ to change lives.  As Director of both the adult and youth bands, you will lead congregation in praise of God through music and shepherd the volunteer musicians in their journeys of faith.   Collaborating with our priest, you will select worship songs that lead to an authentic encounter with God and you will listen for where God might be calling our church family and musicians to grow in new expressions of worship.  

Key Responsibilities:

 Fueled by your passion for excellence in worship, you will lead the worship band on Sunday mornings (inside or Lakeside) and on Holy days and special services.   You will direct weekly worship team rehearsals, coaching vocalists and instrumentalists and scheduling musicians.  You will collaborate with Director of Congregational Life to recruit, train, and manage volunteer musicians.  Using your strong communication skills, you will lead in a way that inspires those around you to participate in, grow, and align with St. Js’ mission, vision and core values.  

       As an integral part of the staff, you will participate as a team player, attend staff meetings and the annual staff retreat.              You will serve on the Worship and Communication committees as requested.

You will maintain the band and audio equipment and plan for future needs, including preparing the contemporary worship budget and communicating with other staff musicians and the Finance Committee.  You will assist the Audio-Visual Team leader in integrating technology to support, enable, and enhance worship.  You will secure and prepare a substitute band leader, as approved by the priest, to cover any Sundays off.

Qualifications:

Your strong faith in God, commitment to grow as a follower of Jesus Christ, and passion for leading authentic worship will serve you well.  You are gifted vocally and instrumentally, placing an emphasis on the ability to lead from piano or the guitar.  You are familiar with and talented in a variety of worship related musical and artistic genres, and you have the vision, skills, and desire to develop worship and musical leadership in others.  Your demonstrated interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively in team situations, flexibility, and problem solving skills are a must.  You can use audio-visual and computer equipment as necessary.
