Middle & High School Youth Program
Second Sunday
St. John’s, St. James’, and St. Luke’s Episcopal Churches Present Middle & High School Youth Second Sunday Begins September 9th 5-7pm St. John’s Episcopal Church Marcellus, NY In an effort to meet families where they are, three churches are combining resources to offer a brand new program to support our youth.
Gone are the days of traditional Sunday School each week. Second Sunday is a customized monthly youth program for all young people in Grades 6-12 who are seeking to find connection with God and one another. Each month on conveniently enough, the second Sunday, youth will share a meal together and have a time of sharing, reflecting and learning with guest speakers. Each program will conclude with a contemporary worship service with music. The location will rotate monthly between the three participating churches St. John’s of Marcellus, St. James’ of Skaneateles, and St. Luke’s in Camillus.
Young people of all walks of life and faiths are welcome. Come as you are and spread the word to friends. The intent of Second Sunday is to have both a Middle School Leader and High School Leader to break out during sharing and reflection time to better focus on the needs of each age group. Second Sunday is fortunate to have found a talented and faith driven leader, Erin Moore for the High School group.  Bob Shafer will be the Middle School leader. (BIO coming)
HS Leader BIO:  Erin Moore is a teacher and musician who is excited to be leading the high school group of Second Sundays starting this fall. Erin has been teaching music and religion for 10 years in San Francisco, CA and here in Syracuse. Erin holds her Masters in Theological Studies from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, CA, and her Masters in Music Education from Ithaca College. Currently, Erin teaches chorus at Christian Brothers Academy Syracuse and is the music director at St. John’s in Marcellus. Erin is married to St. John’s rector Fr. Steven Moore, and they have two wild children James and Miriam.  The Middle School Leader will be confirmed soon. Second Sunday begins September 9, 2018 at St. John’s in Marcellus from 5-7pm. Youth need to only bring themselves. Second Sunday is the result of listening to families and responding to ever changing cultural pressures. Community families and clergy have been in discussion and research to create something to support area youth. The goal is to offer teen youth a path to spiritual growth and the love of Jesus. It has been said many times, “it takes a village to raise a child” and this program will be successful with consistent support and participation from parents, clergy, parishioners and area youth.
