Did You Know? By Emma Cowley

Did You Know? Two entrepreneurs from Mexico, Adrian Lopez Velarde and Marte Cazarez came together to create a cruelty-free alternative to animal leather, it’s a first-of-it’s-kind organic leather made entirely from prickly-pear cactus. They don’t use toxic chemicals, phthalates, or PVC  and the vegan leather is partially biodegradable. Helping the environment motivated López Velarde and Cázarez to make cruelty-free leather. López Velarde stated,  “Environmental pollution is serious and that the earth’s natural resources are under pressure, and the fashion industry, although not the most obvious contributor, is a considerable one, it mattered to us to make a line focused on sustainability to address the environmental problems we all face.” which is what inspired the vegan leather made from cactus. Their business is called Desserto, here is the link to their website so you can learn more about their product and do some shopping. https://desserto.com.mx/home
