Did You Know? By Emma Cowley

Did You Know? Viola Fletcher, also known as Mother Fletcher is one of three of the remaining survivors of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. Fletcher is 109 years old and she has written a book with her grandson Ike Howard called Don’t Let Them Bury My Story: the oldest living survivor of the Tulsa Race Massacre in Her Own Words. Fletcher takes us through the journey of a scared seven-year-old girl who was woken up  in the middle of the night and forced to flee her burning neighborhood of Greenwood and through to when the 109-year-old woman testified before Congress seeking justice for the families of the greatest tragedy to take place on American soil. This is a piece of history that we don’t hear about but we should know about. Check it out!
